The waiting is over and the decisions are final! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, drawn from last week’s worthy short lists, the winners of the first annual No Ordinary Fool Film Awards are as follows:
The NOFFA for Best Original Score – Jan A.P. Kaczmarek (The Visitor)
The NOFFA for Best Picture from a Major Studio - There Will Be Blood
The NOFFA for Best Irish Film – Eden
The NOFFA for Best Animated Feature Film – Waltz With Bashir
The NOFFA for Best Documentary Feature - My Winnipeg
The NOFFA for Best Cinematography – Far North
The NOFFA for Best Adapted Screenplay – Gomorrah
The NOFFA for Best Original Screenplay – Lars & The Real Girl
The NOFFA for Best Actress in a Supporting Role – Hafsia Herzi (Couscous)
The NOFFA for Best Actor in a Supporting Role - Jérémie Renier (The Silence of Lorna)
The NOFFA for Best Actress in a Leading Role – Kristin Scott Thomas (I’ve Loved You So Long)
The NOFFA for Best Actor in a Leading Role – Michael Fassbender (Hunger)
The NOFFA for Best Director – Steve McQueen (Hunger)
The NOFFA for Best Picture- Hunger

So, the ground-breaking Hunger is this year’s big winner, scooping the award in three of the six categories in which it was nominated. This is thoroughly deserved, as it is a remarkable work from beginning to end.
The most disappointed nominees will be Happy-Go-Lucky, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and The Orphanage. All three were superb films and deservedly nominated in multiple categories. However, they are all going home empty-handed. These virtual awards of ours are a real lesson in tough love, I am afraid.
Anyway, here is to another superb year in 2009! Looking at what is currently in the pipeline, there is already a great deal to be looking forward to!
