The Ninth Day of Christmas 2008

portishead

They’re baaaack! Not only did The Breeders return to us last year, but so did Portishead. Their obscurely-entitled third studio recording Third divided the critics, but I like the sense of mechanical menace that is present on a good deal of the album. In addition, well, I could probably listen to a scratched record of Beth Gibbons gargling glass to be honest!

A couple of other familiar names in Shearwater and Sigur Rós can also be found below, as well as some impressive new ones in Plants and Animals and Proof of Ghosts. There was also some excitement this year about Port O’Brien’s two Dublin shows. They did come out with quite a pretty solid first album, but the good news is that I suspect that they have a lot more left in their locker yet!

Can I have a link please, Bob?
