Mola, which some may know as being an item of traditional clothing worn by Panamanian women, also happen to be a four-piece Dublin band that will have their debut album One Year In the Asylum out shortly. They were on the Revolver Presents… bill on Saturday night at Radio City.
While strip-mining the seventies and eighties for inspiration has been very much in vogue in recent years, this band is on a purist’s pursuit to bring rock music back to the time before music videos. Before panic sets in, they are not motivated by Buggles’ awful tune and (probably!) would not get the lead part in a re-make of The Elephant Man. It really is just that they know the sound that they want to play. Anyway, so long as it does not involve flares, lava lamps, Ford Cortinas, or Bird’s Angel Delight, No Ordinary Fool thinks that idea is pretty groovy man!
What I can report is that Mola have a dirty foot-thumping sound live and that the start and end of the set, in particular, were pretty damn good.
I am also liking the whole psychedelic approach to the sleeve art above!
You can check out a couple of songs from the album here.

Come on man! Video Killed the Radio Star ROCKS!
“ELM” - please note that someone with far better taste in music already posts here under that name. Why don’t you try something more appropriate like Dexy In Dungarees instead?
